About Mayrhofen
The pretty town of Mayrhofen is a brightly painted, bustling resort steeped in Austrian tradition with local business owners proudly sporting the traditional dress. It is becoming increasingly famous for its vibrant après ski, varied night life and is home to the world's best winter sports and music festival. The Zillertal 3000 ski area is made up of 4 main ski areas, connected by a simple free bus system. All areas can be accessed with the standard Zillertal ski pass.
The modern Penkenbahn Gondola runs from the main street in Mayrhofen, up onto a stunning high plateau which sits more than 1200m above the village. The Penken ski area interlinks Mayrhofen with the Finkenberg, Rastkogel and Eggalm resorts, resulting in one of the largest and most varied ski regions in Austria. There are flats areas for beginners, numerous intermediate cruisers and the steepest groomed run in Austria! Don't miss the Vans Penken Park with 5 lines available for every level of ability.
Further up the valley from Mayrhofen is the ski area of the Hintertux Glacier. Its height ensures snow reliability and year round skiing, with exceptional views. The skiing on the Hintertux Glacier tends to be best suited to intermediates with wide and reasonably flat ski pistes. The glacier's snow park provides the training ground for many British and European pros including rudechalets™ sponsored rider Chris Kightly.
Just a 10 minute bus ride down the valley brings you to the Zell / Gerlos which has earned a reputation as being the best intermediate ski and snowboard area in the Alps!
At the foot of the valley you will find Fugen-Kaltenbach which has some great little runs for all level of skiier and snowboarder and some amazing, often un-touched, off-piste terrain.
